Evaluations

We consult our patients prior to begining any programs or therapies. It is important for us to understand your ailments, history and present condition. We want to know your concerns and questions. With this in mind, our first consultation with you is free.

Next steps would include a full evaluation and review of your medical/health insurance coverages. We want you to focus on getting better. To do this, we make sure that every aspect to your well-being is taken care of- ahead of time. We'll speak to your doctor and insurance carrier to help reduce the paperwork, as well as help you arrange for suitable transportation- if need be.

What To Expect at Your First PT Visit?

Paperwork: On your first visit to our clinic there will be some paperwork to complete so that PROMotion can bill your insurance carrier appropriately and efficiently. With this done in the very beginning you can concentrate on getting better.

Evaluation: Also on your first visit, your Physical Therapist will be doing a full, standard evaluation of your physical situation. What the Physical Therapist will be looking for is any abnormal postures or loss of normal motion, flexibility or strength in the affected area and surrounding areas.

PROMotion will evaluate how this is affecting the function of your whole body during daily activities including work tasks. This initial evaluation can take up to an hour or in some cases longer.

Functional Capacity Evaluations

Functional Capacity Evaluation is defined as a "detailed examination and evaluation that objectively measures the client's current level of function in terms of the demands of competitive employment." In this context, the primary purpose of the FCE is to compare a client's functional abilities with the demands of his or her work in order to allow the safe return to work. (Source: Occupational Health Guidelines: Evaluating Functional Capacity. Alexandria, Va: American Physical Therapy Association, 1997.)

Proper attire:

You should come dressed so that you can move about as comfortably as possible whether standing, sitting or lying down.
